Changing the traditional way of trading and doing business

E-Commerce

With technological innovations playing a catalytic role in driving the world economy, and the rapid uptake of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in many countries, electronic commerce (e-commerce) is increasingly becoming an imperative for economic growth and competitiveness.

Impact on the Economy

The whole economy will benefit from the development of e-commerce. It will lead directly to increased growth in the distribution and communication sectors. It will, in addition, through their use of e-commerce, lead to growth in manufacturing, transport, tourism, fisheries and mining sectors. The widespread adoption of e-commerce by Omani businesses will result in the following outcomes:

  • Expansion in Oman’s market reach
  • Cost reduction through reduced requirements for labour, buildings and other resources
  • Reduced supply chain costs
  • Reduced distribution costs due to improved total factor productivity in distribution
  • Innovation in business activity
